Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 in India on Wednesday at an event in New Delhi. The phones come with a 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi Note 5 is the successor to one of the most popular smartphones Redmi Note 4. The company claims that Redmi Note series had achieved a great success due to its solid build quality, great battery life, and best processing power.
The Redmi Note 5 carries the same design which includes a metal body with symmetrical design. Also, the phone has 4000mAh battery with selfie-light to click the best selfies in dark. The smartphone will exclusively available via Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home retail stores. As per the company, a Face Unlock feature will arrive in March with first OTA update.
The Redmi Note 5 can compete with recently launched Infinix Hot S3 and Honor 9 Lite. The smartphone is running on latest global MIUI 9 which has built-in play services. Let’s talk about the Redmi Note 5 smartphone.
Design and Display:
Having a tall display with 18:9 aspect ratio has become quite common. As Xiaomi was the first one to introduce the tall display on its Mi Mix in 2016. But the Mi Mix series is too costly, so the company wants to recreate the same magic on its affordable and best-selling Note series too.
The smartphone comes with metal unibody which looks very premium and also has solid build quality. On front display, you will get front camera setup with LED flash. As we know Note 4 has capacitive touch key which is placed below the display. So the company decided to go for on-screen implementation. However, it will still display a blank space below the screen.
The back of Note 5 looks very similar to earlier Note 4 device. The camera, LED flash and Fingerprint sensor are placed in a symmetrical manner at the center. The phone sports a 5.9 inch full HD + IPS LCD display. The phone has improved in its brightness and overall performance. It has Gorilla Glass 4 protection which will prevent accidental drops and scratches.
Camera:
Xiaomi has improved its camera quality by implementing 12MP rear camera with aperture f/2.2. The camera sensor is able to capture better photos in lighting condition. But in low light condition, the camera struggles a lot to click better photos.
The front camera quality is slightly improved. The image captured on Redmi Note 5 retains the skin tone to a good extent. Also, it has front-facing LED flash which helps you to capture better selfies in low light conditions. However, Selfies click in full dark are look very blurry but when you shot in lighting condition they look quite better. From rear camera, you can record 4K video at 30fps.
Software:
The Note 5 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with latest custom MIUI 9.2 on a top. The interface of a device is much similar as we have seen on other Xiaomi smartphones. The phone comes with Mi community app which helps you to keep you in touch with the latest news. Also, it provides Mi store app that let you buy all Xiaomi product directly from the manufacturer.
The Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 also supports gestures like double tap to wake, three fingers swipe down to take a screenshot, and long press the home button to start Google Assistant. It has a one-handed mode which allows you to shrink the display on the left or right side. The phone has a remote app that lets you control your TV, air conditioner, etc.
Hardware:
The Note 5 is powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The new processor has two more cores than the processor in Redmi Note 4. The Note 5 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The company also offer higher storage variant which comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. External Storage can be expanded up to 128GB by using micro SD card slot.
A single speaker is placed at the bottom next to Micro-USB charging port. At a top, you can see headphone jack is placed along with IR blaster. The handset comes with higher clocked Adreno 508 GPU which will allow you to play high graphics games without any lacking in it.
Battery:
The Redmi Note 5 comes with 4000 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery. The battery is quite smaller than the one which is found on Note 4. But it won’t make any differences as the battery consumption is well maintained by Android Nougat’s battery optimization process.
One can easily use their smartphone for a full day with heavy usage and over a day with moderate use. The handset doesn’t support fast charging but it has equipped with Quick Charger 3.0 for fast charging. It takes your smartphone battery from zero to full in just two and half hour.
Price and Availability:
The Redmi Note 5 price in India is starting from Rs. 9,999 for 3GB of RAM with 32GB of Internal Storage and goes up to Rs. 11,999 for 4GB of RAM with 64GB of Internal Storage. The smartphone has many color option like Gold, Black, Rose Gold, Lake Blue.
