Indian telecom operator Jio is working on an Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone. The Reliance Jio is collaborating with chip maker MediaTek to build this smartphone, revealed by TL Lee who is a Business Unit Head at MediaTek. The Lee didn’t share any specification about the new Jio Go edition phone.
TL Lee said in the statement, “In addition to their own 4G feature phone, Jio is working very hard with not only MediaTek but also Google for smartphone devices…entry level Android Go.”
At the press event, MediaTek also confirms that it will be the first System-on-chip (SoC) company to launch Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone. The upcoming Micromax Bharat Go smartphone may also be using a MediaTek SoC. The Micromax Bharat Go will be the first Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone which will launch soon.
MediaTek Feature:
The company showcased MediaTek MT6739, a cost-effective quad-core chipset with ARM Cortex-A53 cores which would power the Android Go devices. MediaTek says the Android Go Devices will come in two storage variants one which has 512MB RAM model with 4GB internal storage while other has 1GB RAM models with 8GB storage.
The 512MB RAM devices will offer up to FWVGA resolution displays while the devices with 1 GB RAM will offer better HD+ displays. The smartphone with Android Go will come with a 13MP camera at the back and 8MP camera at the front. It will support WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and also has LTE for 4G connectivity.
To recall you, Just to recall, Google’s Android Go program was first revealed at the I/O developer conference held earlier this year. Android Oreo is the first version ready for the Android Go smartphones. According to Google, the Android Go program is built for smartphones which have 512MB to 1GB of RAM. It is an optimized version which will provide better performance, improve data management and more storage on the entry-level devices.
It will provide a bunch of Go-edition versions of Google apps which are very lightweight in nature. Also, the operating system will include a Go-edition Play Store. It will highlight the applications designed to work better on less-powerful Android devices.
The Android Go phones are planning to offer a very affordable price-tags phone to their users. Like the Micromax Bharat Go smartphone is to be priced under INR 2,000. Compare to Micromax, the price for Reliance Jio will quite higher. However, the reliance will offer some kind of cashback or other promotional offers.
