The top four Chinese giant smartphone manufacturing companies have aligned together to create an alternative for Google PlayStore. Chinese smartphone manufacturers including Xiaomi, Huawei Business Group, Oppo, and Vivo, are getting united to break the monopoly of Google in this marketplace.
The four Chinese companies have joined hands to create a platform that will enable global developers to upload apps onto their respective app stores simultaneously. The new platform, dubbed the Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA), is slated for March and will initially cover nine regions, including India, Indonesia, Russia, Spain, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
According to Reuters, the four companies are creating the Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA), a marketplace for developers to offer more opportunities to their apps, games, movies, music, and other apps. The “Play store killer” was initially slated to launch in March, but the recent coronavirus outbreak could delay that.

Xiaomi said the alliance is to easy the process for the global developers and give them more opportunities. They also have don’t have any intentions of competing with Google PlayStore. Though the Chinese manufacturers have around 40% of stake on the entire market, they fail to grab a stronghold on the users to visit their official app stores due to the lack of many essential third-party apps. The GDSA is expected to help them solve this problem.
Among all the four allianced companies, Huawei is expected to get the biggest advantage of this union. However, Huawei has been already banned by the U.S. in 2019 which forced the Chinese tech giant to develop an alternative Android OS called HarmonyOS. Huawei has also said that it wouldn’t rely on Google services even if it regains its license. This might be a long shot, but it is expected that Huawei might drop all ties with Google sooner or later.
Since successful software alliance are not a common sighting, it will be very much interesting to see how these companies will come up with Google PlayStore’s alternative
