India is one of the most important market for Uber. That’s the reason, Ride-sharing company Uber has launched Uber Lite app in India. However, the Uber Lite is the down version of main Uber app which comes with basic ride booking features. The size of the app is around 5MB and it even works on any Android smartphone which comes with 2G network connectivity.
According to the company, Uber Lite app is design for emerging markets and India is the first one to receive Uber Lite app. For now, the app is available in three cities in India which includes Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Delhi. The company will start rolling out this lite app to more cities in India in next couple of weeks. Moreover, the global release of Uber Lite app will roll later this year.
“We have over 75 million monthly active riders, which is a tiny fraction of the world’s population. With such a huge growth opportunity outside of the U.S., we are building for the next hundreds of millions of riders. To better serve them, we are doubling down on building and designing products entirely in India – Uber Lite is our biggest launch yet on this journey.” said by Manik Gupta, Vice President Product, VP and Head of Product, Uber.
However, Uber Lite app gets redesign interface which works for the 2G network connectivity peoples. The app has basic riding functionality which allows you to book a fast ride and get on your journey with friends or family. In the app, the map view is missing from the home screen for fluid and smooth performance.
The app gets “Guided” pickup feature will detect the location and directly input the pickup point in order to cut down the time for typing. The feature will show you nearby pickup points which allows you to choose from. In addition, Uber has added payment authorization hold feature which holds your card details before your trip begins.
The app also uses GPS location which suggests possible destinations. Moreover, the app has cached of top destinations for each city which is use even if you are offline. Also, the app gets an option to share the ride status and view Maps when needed. Meanwhile, with Lite app, a user can pay a cash for their ride. That means they don’t require credit cards or Paytm account.
