Social networking site Twitter has started testing two new features ‘Bookmarks’ and ‘Talking about’ that will be released to the public in a couple of weeks. Coming towards ‘Bookmarks’ feature, it was first called has ‘saved for later’ feature and it will help users to mark and save the post that they want to read later. ‘Talking about’ feature helps to make tweet engagement easier to hold for the non-Twitter users.

Tina Koyama, Staff Product Designer, Twitter in a tweet,“News from the #SaveForLater team! We’ve decided to call our feature Bookmarks because that’s a commonly used term for saving content and it fits nicely alongside the names of the other features in the navigation.”

Koyama said in her tweet that the company has worked on a different version of this feature and will test these feature on different communities. Twitter has confirmed, the Bookmarks feature will be rolled out but the announcement is suggesting that it will take some time.

As there wasn’t any way to mark tweets that you want to read later. Some Twitter users use favorite as the replacement for bookmarks, but favorited tweets are public and the original tweeter also gets notified. Bookmarks feature will allow the users to flag tweets privately for checking out later. There is no actual launch date for this bookmarks feature right now.

Twitter started working on this feature after many people requested for it especially from Japan. This feature will appear on the menu below or in the drop-down menu at the upper right corner of the tweet. The bookmarks could be saved in the in the user’s profile page along with other feature just after lists and before Moments features.

Coming to Twitter’s second “talking about” feature, the company is testing a new way that will show how many people are talking about popular tweets in embed views. Instead of retweets, replies and favorite numbers sections, Twitter is thinking to show total numbers of retweets and replies, for a tweet shown outside of  Twitter.‘Bookmarks’ and ‘Talking about’

Many tweets reach vast numbers of users and most of them aren’t necessarily. So, ‘talking about’ is an interesting way to reframe the engagement numbers to the users outside the Twitter. This simplification will make user easier for them to understand the metrics. Like “Bookmarks” feature, there is no news about when this “talking about” feature will be rolling out.

Earlier Twitter had extended its character limit to 280 characters from 140 and also, changed the rules for verified Twitter accounts. In addition, Twitter is working on the way to easily write ‘tweetstorms’ on the platform. The Twitter has over 330 million active users and the company is looking to expand the user base by making Twitter more user-friendly and simple to understand.
