LG was greatly successful with its V20 from last year, providing great all-round features while not leaving a hole in the buyer’s pocket. This year, LG seems to have no signs of slowing down with the LG V30. The phone has lost all of its small and unnecessary features such as the secondary display and has improved in the design and the camera segment. Here is an overview of the phone

Design

The phone seems to have improved a lot in the design segment. The phone has a curved glass back which looks quite identical to the LG G6. It can be seen as great improvement over previous versions which did not seem to have any major changes in terms of design. The front, according to most reviewers, looks like the Samsung Galaxy S8. It melts at the edges, kind of like 3D glass. This adds very premium look and feel to the phone. The design makes the phone one of the most beautiful devices by the company.

Hardware

The phone packs a Snapdragon 835 along with 4 gigabytes of RAM. The phone has all the basic sensors expected in a smartphone. The fingerprint sensor is located at the back between the camera element and the LG logo. The spec-sheet is something you would expect from the V series lineup and almost any flagship in 2017. The pre-production models sent out to people for review seem to work very smoothly.

The phone uses USB-C 3.1 for charging which is yet another common thing found in today’s flagships. However, the phone has a built-in high-fi Quad DAC which results in a lossless audio output, a must for audiophiles. The phone has a MicroSD slot which can be expanded up to 256 Gigabytes.

The phone comes in 64 and 128 gigabyte storage options. The display on the phone is a 6.0 inch 2880X1440 display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S8. The phone has an average-sized 3300 mAh Lithium-Ion Battery which fares quite well according to the early reviews. Note that these reviewer opinions may change once the final product is out.

Software

The phone runs Android’s latest 7.1.2 Nougat update. LG seems to have a less interfering approach towards the software this time as there are options to uninstall bloatware and the overall UI doesn’t seem as cartoon-ish as the UI seen on Xiaomi or Huawei phones. LG promises to provide consistent updates in the future. The LG V30 also looks quite promising in the software department. Not much is being messed around with, which is very good. It may not be special at one specific thing but can do all of those standard throughout others.

Camera on the LG V30

LG has improved most in the camera segment with the V30. The dual 16 megapixel cameras offer wide-angle zoom just like last year, but with an improved dynamic range and better low-light performance. The LG V30 also manages to surprise everyone with a whopping f/1.6 lens on the final product. Lesser aperture results in a shallower depth of field, producing bokeh in the most natural way possible. With the “V” in the LG V30 unconventionally standing for Video, the company has introduced the support for cine-video. Cine-video lets users shoot uncompressed footage which captures full sensor data, in turn resulting in a higher dynamic range and sharper video. This makes the LG V30 a full media-oriented phone

Price and Availability

The LG V30 is expected to go on sale in late September and around the $600-700 price segment. It ill be available in most countries with changes in the release date varying from place to place. The phone looks quite promising, especially for enthusiasts, which LG has always targeted at serving with its V lineup
