Snapdragon 888 Announced in Qualcomm’s Tech Summit

Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit launching Snapdragon 888

Long waited SoC that we were waiting for have been named as Snapdragon 888 instead of the traditional naming convention that was rumoured earlier like Snapdragon 875. However, it is the premium chipset that we were looking forward to. Qualcomm started with its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit with virtual addressing from the company’s President, Cristiano Amon.

The Snapdragon 888 features sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G through its X60 Modem. The 5G modem comes with multi sim support with improved carrier aggregation for better data speed, also dynamic spectrum sharing to support the existing 4G network. You can peak 5G data speed more consistently that the older models. Full features of the chips are not unveiled as of now and will be available tomorrow, though some of the key specifications are known.

Some of the known facts of Snapdragon 888 are it will include new Snapdragon Elite Gaming features and faster graphics performance to enhance the gaming experience with minimal latency. This will probably increase updatable GPU drivers, 144 FPS frame rates, and desktop forward rendering. With the company’s sixth-generation AI Engine, performance improvements are also promised with boasts 26TOPs of Machine Learning compute. The new Spectra processor brings computational power for photography that provides 2.7 gigapixels per second throughput which is equivalent to processing 120 images of 12 megapixels per second.

Some of the OEM’s have already been familiar with the chipset and have started working. We will be able to see Most of the flagship devices that will be launching in 2021 with Snapdragon 888. Some of the companies that have already been familiar with the chipset are Asus, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, Oppo, Sharp, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.
